About Us
Harry & Jan at Cornriggs
Low Cornriggs Farm has won two Green Tourism Awards from the North Pennines Tourism Partnership, which are awarded to an enterprise which makes a "positive contribution to tourism and the environment in the North Pennines". We are part of the Green Business Scheme 2006 and we are trying to do our bit to help with the environment.

Jan & Harry's restoration of the meadows and pastures around the farm, as well as the pond and tree plantation which Harry has created, encourages local wildlife to thrive in this Area of Outstanding National Beauty.

In addition to this, Jan has also won a special Pride of Northumbria award for Tourism and the Environment, which recognises the continued work being done on the Farm to provide habitats for native wildlife, and for restoring the original dry stone walls around the Farm.

We have been open for Bed & Breakfast from 1991 at Cornriggs and evening meals in our farmhouse. During this time Jan has won The Pie Award with the AA every year from 2002 this is for the superb quality of her evening meals she offers her guests, We use Hereford Beef from our farm and Weardale Lamb when in season. Most of the food is seasonal local and organic if possible. Every thing is home cooked and Jan has completed The Certificate of Professional Cookery course at Darlington Catering College.

We have also won the Breakfast Award  with the AA for serveing good local and home made food.

Harry has a herd of Hereford Cattle and also manages the farm, He is passionate about the Herefords and has spent the last two summers getting them ready for show and showing them with some success. He is happy to show them off to visitors. This year the cows have been to a few shows already .

He also built the two holiday cottages that sit half way up the farm track which stands on the site of our old stable block, he has also done a lot of the building work in the house and on and around the farm.

We have a Fell Pony called Gem that is 26 years old ,who took Jan to High House Chaple when they they were married .Gem has won many shows in her younger years. Also we have two Boarder Collies ,Nelly and Fly, and a Westie called Alice who is always getting dirty.
